Your mulank comes from the day of the month you were born, reduced to a single digit. Born on the 7th, your mulank is 7. Born on the 23rd, add 2 and 3 to get 5. Born on the 29th, add 2 and 9 to get 11, then add 1 and 1 to get 2. The reduction continues until a single digit remains, and that number is traditionally read as your most immediate, surface level personality driver.

Your bhagyank uses your complete birth date, day, month and year, all added together and reduced to a single digit. For someone born on 15 August 1994, you would add 1, 5, 8, 1, 9, 9 and 4 to get 37, then 3 and 7 to get 10, then 1 and 0 to get 1. The bhagyank is considered the deeper, longer arc of your life direction, compared to the more day to day nature of the mulank.
